Since the publication of "Perspectief Bestemming Nederland 2030" (NBTC, 2019) and "Waardevol toerisme: onze leefomgeving verdient het" (Rli, 2019), the concept of "balance" has become central in tourism discussions. The NBTC, in collaboration with various academic and governmental institutions, launched a project to operationalize and measure balance in tourism. This initiative aims to equip policymakers and destination managers with data and indicators to assess and promote sustainable tourism, highlighting the importance of continued dialogue and awareness in managing tourist destinations effectively.
